LATEST SOFIA DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION REFUSED A COUNCIL PERMIT.

Council has refused a permit for a 7 story, 82 room, residential hotel complex on the old bank site and over part of the Sofia restaurant building in Burke Road, Camberwell.

A previous proposal for a 5/6 storey residential complex on the site has already been approved by VCAT and this permit remains current.

It is now probable that the developer will lodge an appeal with VCAT and, as developers often do, the appeal proposal could contain an amendment for a larger complex which VCAT may well approve.

BRAG argued in support of the council refusal to grant a permit in the knowlege that we will probably have to go before VCAT again to make our case.
